X-Men 2: Clone Wars

Released in 1995 by Sega as a much-awaited sequel of X-Men (1993), this game was very popular with gamers across the globe. It was so welcomed, because it fixed nearly all the problems encountered in the previous X-Men game.

They removed the mutant power bar and helped players easily recharge the health of their characters, adding efficiency, and speed to an already great game.

In this game the X-Men fight against an alien race known as the Phalanx and prevent them from taking over the Earth. The game also boasts one of the best soundtracks in comparison to any other X-Men game.

X-Men: Children of the Atom

Next on our list is game developer Capcom’s first X-Men video game, X-Men: Children of the Atom. Released in 1994, it set the precedent for many games to come like the X-Men Vs. Street Fighter and the Marvel Vs. Capcom series.

The plot is adapted from the comic Fatal Attractions and the story follows the main villain Magneto who aims to destroy Earth’s non-mutant population by unleashing an electromagnetic pulse.

The game features a thrilling multi-tiered environment with mid-air fights and crumbling grounds that can drop characters to lower levels.

X-Men Legends

X-Men Legends was released by Activision in 2004. For so long players had to play X-Men games only with single characters. By allowing for a four-character role-play, X-Men Legends became a hit overnight!

The players could switch amongst the characters at any given point in the game. The game also features an original story that follows Alison Crestmere, a teenage mutant girl who can summon and control volcanic activity.

She joins the X-Men on a mission to foil Magneto’s plans to plunge the Earth in darkness. You can still play the game and go on that exciting journey again.

The best X-Men game is X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse, and it undoubtedly makes it to our number one spot! Released by Activision in 2005, it allowed the player to battle across different comic settings and it still remains the best representation of X-Men in video games.

This sequel brings the X-Men together with the Brotherhood who are mutant villains, joining forces to defeat the deadly villain Apocalypse. The added online multiplayer mode, high-quality scenes, and a larger cast all added to the appeal of the game, making it an instant best-seller!

The Bottom Line

While we wait for our favorite mutant heroes to return, we can only relish in the good old times and revisit some of the best X-Men games from the past. Consider playing these games to have fun beating up bad guys!

The times when we couldn’t get enough of them and they were more popular than any other heroes. Perhaps having them jump straight out of our comic books and onto our screens is what gave them this fascinating charm!
